Original green boards with gilt tile on spine and front. Decoratve endpapers. pp.242. Boards are lightly soiled and showing edgewear to extremities. Internally there is some light foxing to early pages, but otheriwse a clean and tight copy. The Colonel's style is authoritative - and addictive. His asides, which provide splendid glimpses of life under the British Raj, are as interesting as his recipes, which range from hors d'oevres and savoury toasts to curries, galantines and puddings. The chapter on camp cookery - "tinned Australian, and other preserved lumps of meat, are valuable additions to the store box of the jungle-wallah" - is particularly enjoyable. Scarce.
